A Day Theatre Program for adults with disabilities
CADA, The Center for Applied Drama and Autism and Ardmore, Inc. have partnered to develop an adult theatre program for people of all abilities with an interest in learning and creating theatre.
The focus of the program is to produce work by people with autism and other disabilities while creating opportunities to learn and practice the real life skills that theatre can teach.
Theatre provides a safe space for practicing the ability to self-advocate, follow directions, collaborate, and to create and meet deadlines. Through role play, theatre games, mask work and character study, participants will strengthen their social and emotional awareness. The program provides training in skills that are essential in creating theatre such as designing, carpentry, painting, sewing, operating lights/sound boards, writing, videography and business skills (box office, publicity, stage & house management).
This program leads the way in demonstrating the power of inclusive theatre. Theatre on the Spectrum will be taking field trips to visit Akron’s professional and community theatre companies while actively seeking partnerships with area schools and universities to join us in our productions.
